Here you will find a short stroll though Denir's proud history. From the early 50's through the 60's until now. Denir is full of history and stories.
The Aghbashoff family established itself in New York City in the late fifties. Uriel, the father of Denir’s present Owner Michael Aghbashoff, started trading in diamonds and jewels together with Michael’s older brother David in 1958.
Michael learned jewelry skills as an apprentice after school hours. He started to make unique jewelry pieces and sell them on 47th street in New York. Success encouraged him to take courses in diamond grading and gem identification. He realized that one can run a small business step by step in the hope of reaching the heights of the business world. Michael’s thirst for further knowledge drove him to study the art of jewelry design at the prestigious Parsons Institute of Design.
At that time, he started to develop a small jewelry collection for his growing clientele in New York, where he was invited to show his original creations at fine jewelry exhibitions.
In the mid sixties, Michael joined the family business and with his accumulating experience was able to become a Member of the Diamond Dealers Club in N.Y. There he met people with fresh ideas which enabled him to develop new techniques in fine jewelry productions. On numerous occasions, Michael traveled to Israel to buy calibrated diamonds and loose stones which were integrated in the jewelry that he produced for his clientele.
In 1986, Michael settled with his family in Israel and immediately established his business at the heart of the Israel Diamond Exchange in Ramat-Gan. He set up two companies “under one roof”: Denir Diamonds Ltd. and Denir International Ltd., with significant in-house manufacturing resources. Joining the dynamic and accelerating stream of the international diamond business convinced Michael that his opportunities were limitless.
Denir started expanding its European customer base by exhibiting at prestigious fairs such as Vincenza in Italy and Basel World in Switzerland, and visiting more and more European clients at their premises. Michael’s wife Rebecca, who like him is a graduate of a GIA based diamond grading and gem identification course, has been confidently leading Denir’s customers’ relations management. Her lovable character and warm hospitality earned her strong appreciation among Denir’s contact people. We can certainly say that “business and pleasure” are combined within the walls of our premises.
In the early 90s, Michael visited Russia and explored the jewelry collections in Moscow and St. Petersburg Museums. The strong impressions inspire him to design necklaces, bracelets earrings and rings weaving together diamonds and colored stones in a classical way.
“If you have all the money in the world but you do not have a good reputation, you are worthless, but with a good name you can conquer the world.”
Michael’s late father Uriel
As he looks back, Michael, President and Owner of Denir Diamonds Ltd., sees a clear pattern: The Aghbashoff family has earned its reputation by combining excellent goods and uncompromising professionalism with strict honesty and warm friendliness.
